About the Role
As a Software Engineer on the Research & Development team, you will build the core systems that power Sakana AI's novel approach to foundation model development. You'll work at the intersection of research and production, translating cutting-edge ideas from the research team into robust, scalable software.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement software systems that support research experimentation at scale
- Build training and evaluation infrastructure for large-scale model development
- Collaborate closely with researchers to prototype and productionize new algorithms
- Optimize model training pipelines for performance and reliability across GPU clusters
- Contribute to the development of internal tools and frameworks used by the research team
- Write clean, well-tested code and participate in thorough code reviews
Qualifications
- 3+ years of software engineering experience, with strong Python and systems programming skills
- Experience with ML frameworks (PyTorch, JAX) and distributed training
- Familiarity with GPU computing and high-performance computing environments
- Strong computer science fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, systems design)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, research-oriented environment
- English proficiency required; Japanese language skills are a plus
