About the Role

Who we are

Helsing is a defence AI company. Our mission is to protect our democracies. We aim to achieve technological leadership, so that open societies can continue to make sovereign decisions and control their ethical standards.

As democracies, we believe we have a special responsibility to be thoughtful about the development and deployment of powerful technologies like AI. We take this responsibility seriously.

We are an ambitious and committed team of engineers, AI specialists and customer-facing programme managers. We are looking for mission-driven people to join our European teams – and apply their skills to solve the most complex and impactful problems. We embrace an open and transparent culture that welcomes healthy debates on the use of technology in defence, its benefits, and its ethical implications.

The role

As a Requirements Engineer, you are responsible for establishing and maintaining the foundational "source of truth" for Helsing’s complex mechatronic and software-defined programmes.

You will act as the crucial linchpin between high-level operational needs, system architecture, and detailed engineering design. As part of our cross-functional team, you will directly participate in our work with industry partners and defence forces to translate abstract capabilities and regulatory standards into actionable, verifiable engineering specifications. Your work will guarantee that we build exactly what is needed to maintain our technological advantage and ensure mission success on the battlefield.

Working closely with mechanical, electrical, software, and AI engineering teams, you will not just be a tool administrator. You will own the requirements lifecycle, facilitate technical alignment, and ensure that our physical platforms and AI integrations are built on a foundation of clear, unambiguous, and traceable requirements. In this role, you are responsible for the meticulous documentation, traceability, and change management that underpins the on-time and high-quality delivery of our defence systems.

The day-to-day

Collaborate with product managers, system architects, and subject matter experts to capture high-level stakeholder needs and operational concepts (CONOPS).

Analyse and refine raw inputs into clear, unambiguous, and testable system and subsystem requirements, enforcing best practices (e.g., INCOSE standards, EARS syntax).

Own and administer the enterprise Requirements Management (RM) tool (e.g., Jama Connect, DOORS, Polarion) for assigned mechatronic projects.

Establish and maintain rigorous end-to-end traceability—from stakeholder requirements down to hardware/software component specifications, and across to verification and validation (V&V) test cases.

Facilitate requirement review sessions with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure technical feasibility, consistency, and a shared understanding of project scope.

Manage requirement baselines, version control, and comprehensive change impact analysis throughout the fast-paced product lifecycle.

Act as the primary point of contact for multidisciplinary engineers when interpreting requirements or proposing changes during the design and integration phases.

Assist in defining and continuously improving internal systems engineering processes, templates, and workflows to maintain compliance with industry standards.

Note: We operate in an industry where women, as well as other minority groups, are systematically under-represented. We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet all the listed qualifications; ability and impact cannot be summarised in a few bullet points.

Nice to Have

Have more than 3 years experience in Requirements Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely related role within complex hardware/software product development.

Have advanced proficiency in at least one enterprise Requirements Management tool (e.g., Jama Connect, IBM DOORS / DOORS Next Gen, Polarion).

Possess a deep understanding of the Systems Engineering V-Model and how requirements integrate into the broader product development and verification lifecycle.

Have experience working on products that require rigorous compliance and traceability (e.g., defence, aerospace, automotive, or medical devices).

A University degree in Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

Business fluency in English (German language skills are a strong asset).

Are willing to travel.

Are collaborative, humble, a problem-solver, and a confident communicator capable of driving consensus among diverse teams.

Join Helsing and work with world-leading experts in their fields
