About This Role:
As a Data Center Technician at our Houston (TXDR) site, you are the hands and eyes on the
floor for Crusoe Cloud's production infrastructure. Working inside a colocation environment, you
keep customer-facing compute, storage, and the supporting network online and healthy. That
means racking and cabling new hardware, diagnosing and repairing server and network faults,
keeping physical inventory and asset records accurate to the unit, and helping run our on-site
qualification lab where new equipment and configurations are validated before they reach
production.
This is a hands-on, detail-driven role for someone who takes pride in the fundamentals: clean
cabling, tidy racks, accurate records, and fast, methodical troubleshooting. It is primarily a
day-shift position based on site in Houston, with participation in a shared on-call and escalation
rotation.
What You'll Be Working On:
Hardware install and break-fix: Rack, stack, cable, and decommission servers, storage,
and network gear, and perform component-level repairs (drives, power supplies, optics,
memory, network cards).
Structured cabling: Run, label, test, and troubleshoot fiber and copper connections,
including high-density optics, and keep cable management clean and well documented.
Network troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve physical-layer and connectivity issues
across switches, spines, and cross-connects, partnering with remote network
engineering to isolate and clear faults.
Inventory and asset management: Perform regular physical inventory counts, reconcile
against system records, and maintain accurate, audit-ready asset tracking.
Operational monitoring: Track environmental conditions, power, and hardware health
through monitoring and DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) dashboards,
and escalate facility issues to the colocation provider.
Lab support: Help build, cable, and maintain the on-site qualification lab used to test new
hardware and configurations.
Vendor and contractor escort: Coordinate and supervise on-site vendor work, ensuring
quality and adherence to site procedures.
Documentation: Contribute to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Method of
Procedure (MOP) documents, and keep runbooks current.
Incident and maintenance support: Participate in an on-call and escalation rotation to
respond to issues that affect availability, and provide notice of planned maintenance to
the appropriate teams.
What You'll Bring to the Team:
Hands-on data center experience: At least 2 years of hands-on work in a live data center
or a comparable environment, including rack-and-stack, hardware break-fix, and
structured cabling.
Networking fundamentals: Solid working knowledge of networking concepts and
components (TCP/IP, DNS, switching, optics, cabling standards) and real comfort
troubleshooting physical connectivity.
Inventory discipline: Experience with physical inventory and asset reconciliation, and the
diligence to keep records accurate. You treat meticulous inventory and clean cabling as
core to the job, not as chores beneath you.
Troubleshooting mindset: Methodical, root-cause problem solving, and the initiative to
act without waiting for direction.
Safety awareness: Working knowledge of data center safety practices, including safe
work around energized equipment and basic lockout/tagout (LOTO) awareness.
Safety and Compliance: This position is designated a safety-sensitive position and/or is
located in a safety-sensitive facility. Drug and alcohol program participation may be
required.
Bonus Points:
Experience in a colocation or smaller-scale data center environment.
A bachelor's degree in a technical field.
Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Server+, or A+, BICSI cabling certifications,
or Cisco CCNA.
Familiarity with DCIM, ticketing, and asset or inventory management tools.
Experience supporting a hardware qualification or test lab.
We value demonstrated curiosity and self-direction over pedigree. Hands-on tinkering
with networking and server gear is a plus.
